Millions of Happy Few
In graphic design, we constantly use industrial print machines to produce printed matter. The design process is initiated on screen, and through highly optimized printing techniques, we are able to turn digital images into physical ones.
Our project Millions of Happy Few explores how we can use these modern industrial printing techniques in experimental ways. All print techniques, no matter how optimized, have weaknesses – we have explored how to include these subtle imperfections in the design process and use them to generate form. In five series of experiments, the forms are generated autonomously – they manifest in the actual moment that the print occurs, this makes the design vary from print to print. The forms reflect the circumstances of the process, and expose characteristics in the nature of the printing process.
